Funny, I went in the opposite direction. After some careful thought, I went big and opted for a desktop replacement. I bought the Dell Studio 17, upgraded the display, CPU and RAM. Stuck with the Intel gfx which is a touch slow, but I preferred not to tempt fate with proprietary gfx drivers. Very happy with it; Vista lasted all of ten minutes before I replaced it with Ubuntu 8.10. No trouble detecting the hardware.
