The issue with SIP is that it requires 2 ports, one for Signaling (5060 
5061), and another for the voice data (usually about 10000). On some 
firewalls configurations it just works. On other it can work for some time 
then one side drops out. And on other firewalls you get one way voice.

You can initial a call to the SPA from any softphone. I used Ekiga in my 
testing.
