I'd be careful installing them this time, do it one at a time so you 
know what broke it in first place.

A useful trick is to not delete user settings folders, but to rename 
them instead. A new folder will be created and you can copy your old 
settings to it if you want.

Purge/completely remove is badly named I think. It makes sense for 
server type stuff, where config files really are purged, but for user 
apps it does not do what the name suggests.
