First, battery life shouldn't really BE an issue, given these are fairly low power devices. Im also familiar with the type of devices we are talking about (albeit relatively UNfamiliar with them in person, as indicated by my lamenting over the lack of devices in stores here).
As for sony, Im not a "hater", I own (or HAVE owned) several sony made devices. Now I HAVE read/heard good things about the 505, but I havent found anywhere that carries them, and my experience with their PRS-600 (the "sucessor" to the 505 i BELIEVE) recently did not leave me with smiles. Screen on that thing is crap, badly reflective and lacks decent contrast even when viewing head on with no reflections. The 300 was not available, but HAVE heard the screen is better (but smaller). Where is the choice? I found one Auraltek libre in a radio shack or whatever, asked to have a look and they couldn't find the adapter to power it on, then the sales lady dropped it and pretty well killed the thing. Like I said originally, if anyone has some real insight/hands on experience/sources, I am all ears. I am looking to read pdfs and epubs mainly. Content is mostly technical manuals and non-fiction. I have read that all PDF support is not created equal, and certain devices make the PDF reading experience a tough one (due to many factors including screen size, and rendering). one last thing, I stumbled onto this post, which I found interesting. I wonder where they got their hands on these: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78410
