Hi list,

I'm investigating the idea of setting up an instant messaging server at
$work. We're looking to get away from ICQ, MSN and friends. We want
internal information to stay internal. :-)

Has anyone setup such a server for a medium sized company?

Ideally it would:
- support 100ish clients
- mixed environment (Windows (xp->7), Mac and Linux)
- Open source preferably
- Easy to manage (gui not required, but would make life easier for some)
- Encrypted communications for employees logging in remotely (people on
the road, etc)

Jabber is the first thing that came to mind, but I haven't found a
decent and up to date comparison of the different servers.

Suggestions?
