My last netbook, I just prepared bootable USB, and booted it
(Live, not changing anything on disk) in the store (Future Shop) on a floor
model to verify compatibility.   I explained what I was doing to the sales
people, and they said it was fine to check anything I wanted (was surprising
response to me, ymmv)  That gives you a lot more confidence before you buy.
