I just wanted reliable external sound. I do have an m-audio fastrack ultra that works (and a tascam us-122), however, they are more than I need and they do not work as reliably as this new device. I eventually want surround sound, which is hard to find (none of the units above can do it). This is where optical audio comes in. Like I said I have not gone there yet, but will soon.

12 channel mixer, while fun sounding, is probably overkill just to have something to plug my headphones and amp into :) I think it is at least twice the price of the creative as well.

The unit I posted does have audio in as well, line-in, mic-in and optical in.
