I installed debian a few years ago, and I needed a wired internet
connectin to download all the packages. The wifi drivers weren't in
the installer I used (something called goodbye windows or something
like that). But they were in the installed system.

But I also installed a program called NetworkManager. It actually
activated the driver when I logged in with gnome.
