Are you running any NAT(Network) Filtering on the router?
Does your router have WiFi enabled?
WPA/WPA2 enabled?

If so, check the ethernet addresses in the filter list,
make sure your mac address is in there. Check the
address that ifconfig is reporting.

I just made a fresh install, Ubuntu 11;04, on a friend's machine, it WAS running XP pro.
It was not connected to the internet but does have a wi-fi card.
I made the connection to the network, but nothing happens!
It doesn't ask to connect or anything of the sort...

What have I forgotten?
André.
It may be using a card that is not supported. Do you see the wireless access points when you click on the network icon? You may need to plug into the network and run the hardware drivers utility.

A very good idea before installing is to boot from the livecd and make sure stuff like the network works.
