Hello fellow luggers...

I wanted to bring you all into the loop on a pretty exciting project I am
working on. I will be going to Africa to setup an Internet Cafe for a
school. Yes it is volunteer work and yes the budget to accomplish this is
tight, but not 0. :) I put up a blog that I will try and keep updated as I
go thought all of this. (feel free to read it to get the details of the
trip I have posted thus far)
http://vision2know.blogspot.com/

My plan is to use a DD-WRT router with Coova to manage the connections and
use a Kiosk style live CD or USB key for the work stations. This way a
simple reboot fixes whatever the users are doing and keeps the system in a
consistent state. I did find this
http://jacob.steelsmith.org/content/ubuntu-kiosk-based-10041 Ubuntu Kiosk
based on 10.04.1 that might do the trick. I am also considering using
http://www.sputnik.com which from what I understand is just a commercially
supported version of Coova.

So two questions really...
1- Has anyone used anything mentioned above or have experience with other
Internet Cafe style management systems?
2- Same for live kiosks.

I am not interested in using deep freeze with windows for the workstations.
I want it to be a linux solution. The work station systems are
semi-powerful... not to ancient, but not i7 either. They do all have disk
drives, so I can do full installs, but I want to keep the management of
this as simple as possible.

My next blog post will probably be about the tech side of the work, so
please feel free to reply here or to the blog later tonight when I
eventually get around to it. :)

All feedback and ideas are welcome!
Thanks!
Jimmy
