Interesting.  I got the impression they were hell-bent on bypassing X.

Yes, I know about Android.  It's a nuisance.  Not to mention no support 
(or no user-accessible support) for sshfs or NFS as far as I can tell.  
The Android tablets are the only Linux systems in the house exiled from 
the server.
