I'm getting a new external hard-drive. I have one that's been formatted in ext4, this results in that it can't be read by Macs or M$ machines. So then, I'd like to format the new drive so that it CAN be read by other platforms. Suggestions or recommendations please.

FAT32 can be read in all OSes, but has size limits and generally is ancient. NTFS and exFAT are the only other choices. I personally use NTFS when I have to have cross-platform plug-and-play (although I hate to). I am not sure of exFAT implementation on Mac or Linux, although I know it can be used on both, it may require a driver installation.
