For all my removable drives I use TrueCrypt (or modern variant).  Not
only TC cross platform, but it preserves privacy in the event of your
drive being lost or otherwise falling into the wrong hands.

This may or may not fit your needs.  If not, as others have said, FAT32
is pretty much the standard now-a-days across all platforms, including
my TV. :]
