I am not sure how you are defining best, It is certainly not the
leader, right now RedHat and customized versions of Linux (ex google
farms, aws cloud back end) are much more widely used.
I was blown away when I learned who was running Ubuntu on the backend.
Huge systems like instagram, netflix, uber/lyft, Paypal, Dropbox,
Snapchat, Pinterest, Reddit. Wikipedia and wikimedia... it is pretty
astounding.
