Thanks Peter - that worked. The problem lies with the assignment of the icon. Mnemosyne ran perfectly from the Terminal, and from the Desktop Menu. Running from the icon leads to the 'Cannot find ...' message, and subsequently running from Terminal or Desktop Menu fails to find the Default.mem. Removing all .mnemosyne directories and starting again solves the problem. Stephen
