It worked! I tried your conversion again but this time I made sure I saved from Excel instead of Word. Finally I got all my characters and Q&A placements correct.

Yes, if you still want, I can send you the MS Word 2004 UTF-16 file and the converted Emacs UTF-8 file that didn't work. They aren't the original files I spoke of, but I recreated them and had the same Q&A word jumble problem. Keep in mind I'm working with the Intel 1.2.1 version of Mnemosyne. Where should I send them???
