In advance of version 2.0, what I've done is import cards separately
for [L1 -> L2] and [L2 -> L1] (where L1 and L2 are different
languages), and keep them in separate categories. Then when I'm
adding new material (unseen cards), I only keep one of those
categories activated at a time; this way, the two directions are
spaced out in the scheduling.

I also find this useful since there might be different numbers of
synonyms for the same meaning in different languages, and keeping
separate cards (instead of just vice-versa) allows me to isolate them
better for stricter memorization. For example, 著急 and 擔心 both mean
"to worry", so I find it most effective to have one [english ->
mandarin] card where the question side is "to worry (2)" and I need to
remember both Mandarin synonyms to count the review as correct, but
have two separate [mandarin -> english] cards that both have "to
worry" as the answer. Otherwise, if I had a single [mandarin ->
english] card with the question side as "著急 / 擔心", I'm more likely to
remember, "Oh right, 'worry' is the answer that has two separate
clues," instead of actually recognizing the individual words. Hope
that convoluted explanation makes sense.... This is why the "vice-
versa" feature as I understand it has not been flexible enough for my
needs, and I take the extra effort to add separate cards in different
categories.
