I think going down this path to solve your problem is not the best approach. Each Mnemosyne needs a unique id for the item id="xxx" tag and you are going to have a spend a lot of time editing and checking.
Someone else has already suggested just adding content with the card interface. You could still create a tab delimited Q - A - category text file, but extract each category in turn and import it and manually specify the category code.
