Hi, The backupfile needs to be uncompressed before you can import it.
Your other issues are probably due to running it as a portable program. In that case you have to make sure that you start Mnemosyne *from the USB drive*, and not the version locally installed on your computer. If you start it from your pc, it will save its data to the pc, if you start it from the USB key, it will save its data there.
