I use iMindMap; though many Mind Map programs work very well: including a plain paper notebook that does not require batteries ~ though it does require a certain level of lighting and a four colour pen.
Branches can have notes attached. They get hidden to reduce clutter, appearing on MouseOver; also on exporting or printing...
