Hi,

The best way is to limit the amount of new cards you learn per day. If you 
learn more than e.g. 15 or 20 cards per day, you indeed get the effect that 
after a while, you are swamped with reviews.

There is also no way to take a few days off (your memory does not take a few 
days off either :-) ). However, when you are behind in your reviews, Mnemosyne 
is intelligent enough to present you first with those cards that are most 
urgent.

So, my best advise is that if you feel like you are failing too many cards and 
have too big a workload as a consequence, just take it easier for a while and 
focus more on consolidating the cards you already learned as opposed to 
learning new cards.
