I'm curious to hear how many of you are really using these techniques, and how you feel about the subject!
One of the reasons I didn't pursue Anki was the little countdown timer in the corner. It drove me nuts. I do more and more work in mnemosyne using images, and I consciously take extra time when reviewing even if I get immediate recall. I close my eyes and try and picture the image and ask myself, WHY I knew what it was. This point was made earlier in the list (was it you?) that perhaps when we review we aren't necessarily processing the content of the question but actually just respond to layout and other triggers. When I review I try and ponder a little on each question and think of context and real-life situations where I would want to be able to recall that information, then imagine myself recalling it in that situation.
I now actually quite enjoy my daily mneomsyne session. It's not a chore as I don't put myself under any time pressure and I let my mind wander around each question if I think it's useful.
