Unfortunately, Peter, it doesn't. I suppose I should have specified more. I
have a different database for each language, as I find I'm much more
organized and disciplined that way. If I want to use the same picture for
French and German, then, the same file is copied twice, once to the
french.db_media and once to german.db_media. I'd rather not switch just to
using one database for it all, as these files need to be passed around, and
we don't want one person's files to ruin another's. Not to mention, other
people I'm working with are using different languages entirely, and don't
necessarily need the French files, while I don't need their Italian files,
and so on.

I guess what I'm really asking for is the ability to subfolder media files,
so that I can, say, have one folder with all images, one folder with all
French sounds, one folder with all German sounds, Spanish, Irish, etc,
instead of having the same set of pictures copied to each folder.
