Here are a couple of mobile web stats from Visiongain at an MDA
analyst day a few weeks ago:

The iPhone is 10.7% of the installed smartphone base but generates 60%
of mobile internet traffic.

There are 650m mobile web users globally  meaning they have used it at
least once in that month (March 2009)

USA:
>From January 2008 there was a doubling from 11.3 million daily users
of the mobile internet to 24.2 million in January 2009.
63.2 million online mobile at least once a month in 2008 - up 71% on 2007
