This definitely might be useful, for the reasons you and Matt stated.

I remember hanging out on IRC one day and somebody there was talking about
it.  Its still in early days but he seemed pretty into it.  One thing I
suggested was he try to emulate the Apache API as much as possible, which
would make it possible to have cross-platform compatible mod_perl code.
