I've never understood this critique about America's newness... especially 
form someone espousing / pretending a Mod perspective.  Just because parts of 
Europe, China, wherever, have petrified doggie dung, or medeival architecture 
(very cool), does not say too much for that country's relevance or importance 
at this point in time. Europe's pride & pomposity over it's history is a big 
reason why the mass of innovations have come from elsewhere during the modern 
age. (And why the annoying American-bashing is essentially sour grapes). 
Nevertheless, I'm a hopeless Anglophile, Germanophile, Chinoiseaphile, 
etc...and a lover of history.

Are you actually going to tell me that America / Boston has no place in 
history? Would we really be better-off without electricity, transportation, 
telecommunications, computers...oh, silly me, I forgot: America has only 
contributed Coca-Cola and McDonald's.
