Right on.. The working class is a great place to come from, but a shitty
place to be. What was it Mr Lennon said about 'heroes' and 'working
classes'? I don't like the man at all, but have to concede that this lyric
is fantastic..
Just a sidetrack, why do people in computer rooms have the most
irritating ringers on their phones? I just heard the most original. Old
MacDonald!!! I once saw a bloke with a baby in his arms in Manc Vic station
and his phone went off. It was Brahms' Lullaby. Sweet.
And why is it that I constantly get ribbed for living in the past, then,
when I get a mobile phone (out of necessity I may add, it was actually
cheaper for me!), get equal comment with people saying 'Mods didn't have
mobile phones!' Maybe not, but they would have had they been around. A real
embodyment of mobile subcultures!!
If you are still intrigued about the above (Julian's insights), read
some of Dick Hebdige's stuff and there's a great chapter in Celia Lury's
'Consumer Culture' all about how the working classes are far more prone to
rebellion and creating rebellious identities through consumerism. I think it
mentions mods. Vaguely. So you MUST read it right, 'cos it has mods in and
stuff. There must be a chapter in Mein Kampf about mods. Surley. Cos after
all we are the be all and end all of sub cultures, right? Right, so don't
forget it...
Please don't send silly posts saying that I am in cohorts with Mr
Farlowe. The above was a joke.
Modernist outlook with post-modernist humour. Discuss....
Fart oo much time on my hands...(sic)
Certainly not Out of Time (my humour never fails to depress
me),
                  Matt..
