Oh, I don't know, I think everyone pouring their hearts out would be the end
of civilised society!
More emotional repression, less expression - it makes for good pop culture!

Dan - can I just ask why you ALWAYS respond this way?

I thought by know that some of us might have established the not entirely
illogical point that it is possible to know and enjoy B, which came after A,
but still know what we're talking about whether talking about A or B, and
maybe even be able to understand the roots of B (though that isn't neccasary
to appreciate B), and even see how B might have improved on A (as 60s soul
did on 50s r'n'b, though that's an opinion).

And there is a slight straw man tendency here in that (a) no one ever talks
about Britpop on here except to slag it off - those who do have long since
joined other lists, and had the point made clear to them that Britpop is not
mod, and (b) none of what I'd loosely call the 'forward looking' faction -
something like Dominic, Davy Love, and people like Brian and myself on the
borders (straight mod DJs, but open to hearing new music) - have ever said
anything about stupid 'retro' shit. Nor have the MAJORITY of the Britpop
kids, apart from the odd hyper-reactive ones that blow up and off the list
at the first sign of criticism. So just who are you trying to get at,
because it's evident who it's going to offend, and that some of us will rise
to the bait of being called clueless.
