Again drop by your local precinct house today and ask them how many
complaints they get a day. If its in a large urban city like I live in
they'll get a lot of them and they'll tell you frankly that not all of them
are reliable. Often that is immediately apparent. The original article that
reported this incident included comments by Surrey officers that said they
had judged her complaint a serious one and they thought her sane. You
can't just go into a police station and say "Hey I was raped four years
ago. Do something about it!" without the officers, who probably have a lot
to do, asking serious questions "Like do you have any forensic evidence? do
you have witnesses? can you prove you and the rapist were at the same
place?" They are not, are not going to go haul Paul Weller in just because
somebody said something. Not when they know that if they have nothing more
than that then they will very likely face a huge lawsuit!
