This would be a much needed feature for checking up on things like this.
What exactly have I been missing without the session cache enabled,
and when is the 2.4.1 expected?

Also, we have been doing some hacking on the virtualhost module for Apache
(agaisnt 1.3.10-dev) and was wondering if you gave it another look 
recently.  By using this module, the size of apache is reduced 12 times,
so it really looks like we are going to have to make the move, somehow.
Either that, or have to use old VirtualHost stanzas for SSL customers.
