Hello again,

Solved my own problem, sort of. It seems the problem was only with the part
of the startup that queried for the certificate decryption password. I
decrypted it using openssl and it starts up fine and works well. 

I noticed the password prompt said "RSA" (see orig. msg, below), which was
not the case with the earlier version of mod_ssl - perhaps that difference
was part of the problem?
