I'm trying to find a cost-effective way to get someone to sign my CA. In
order for it to be worth spending money on, it should be someone who's CA
is already in the major browsers. Thawte seems to want to charge
US$100,000 per year. Of course, they're not sure how much it will cost in
the future given their acquisition by Verisign -- and I can't see that
Verisign has any such program where they'll sign your CA.

I see entities like GTE, Deutsche, Entrust, Equifax, American Express, and
others have their CAs in at least Netscape browsers. Do any of you use any
of these companies to sign your CA? Do any of them do it at a reasonable
price? I'd like to avoid the hassle of renewing and paying for all our
Verisign web server certs every year or so, but getting our own local CA
into all users' browsers would cause just too much chaos. Anybody find a
good solution?
