Must be something strange with your setup, I've been using mod_ssl 2.6.6
on Linux with MSIE clients with good results.
Have you tried a different certificate? Can you post your configuration
file (httpd.conf) on the web so we can have a look?
I noticed that you used tarballs except for Apache, where you used a
RPM. For the easiest installation, please use only Apache rpms from the
mod_ssl site, we've seen nothing but problems when using apache rpms from
other vendors.
You can find these RPMs under the contrib section. I also recommend using
the mod_ssl and openssl RPM from there as well.
