Replace the files and restart the server is the way I would do it.
One thing, you have to kill apache dead, and start a fresh copy any
time you change anything related to certificates. -HUP or -USR1 will
not do the job.
In apachectl terms this is
apachectl stop
apachectl start
restart or graceful will not work.
