I would recommend two things. Firstly wait for Modus v3 due out on 3rd
Nov and secondly consider using ModusGate in front off your ModudMail
server.
Running ModusGate infront off your ModusMail server will allow you to
integrate the two systems so that customers can view Quarantined mail
and release through the Modus Web Mail Interface.
You would set this up by having both Modus Mail and modus Gate use UNC
paths to store the Quarantine data to a single data store. You also
configure each server to point to the same SQL database for storing the
Quarantine Index.
This solution also allows you to put both servers into DNS as MX
records. You put the ModusGate server in DNS with a higher MX priority
(lower number) so that under normal conditions it would receive more
connection attempts. You should be aware that your Modus Mail server
would still see some connection attempts.
As your system grows you can add additional Modus Gate servers to act as
relays and stop services such as SPAM and Virus Scanning on the Modus
Mail server to improve performance.
The key here is that the products will work together and hence allow
your relay servers to validate mailboxes before accepting mail reducing
work load on your main mail server whilst providing the protection you
need.

Hi all,
We recently purchased a Webshield e500 to place in front of our mail
servers to cut back on the volume of mail hitting them by eliminating
Viruses/Spam before they reach the mail server.
However it turns out that it doesn't support a way to programatically
update the list of domains it will relay for and is therefore useless to
us. We'll be returning it shortly so it's time for me to try finding an
alternative product that may meet our needs.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a 'transparent' device that does
Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam to drop in front of a ModusMail server?
Modus got in a bad state again today that saw delayed emails. I had to
rename the incoming spool and then requeue the mail. Even then it had
trouble keeping up with more then 2 messages a second being reinjected.
:(
Thanks,
Jon Benson
