* This is the modus mailing list * Hi all,
I've just sent a reply to Vircom on this topic and provided them with certain information I'll paste in below. All feedback is welcome. As mention we have been encountering ongoing, intermittent, problems with mail building up in the incoming folder which is the reason we want to place something in front of Modus. The only things I can see us changing that may make a difference are: a) Some registry tweaks I've received from Vircom b) Moving Quarrantine to SQL c) Enabling Anti-Virus/Anti-Spam for everyone (at the moment it's only done for paying customers on a per domain basis) Our system specs follow: Dell Poweredge 6600 Quad Xeon (1.5GHz from memory) 4GB RAM All drives are 15k Ultra 160 SCSI spread across two RAID controllers (ie 4 channels worth) System/Vircom program/Logs = 2 drives in RAID 1 (mirror) Mailboxes = 4 drives in RAID 10 Spool/Quarrantine/Webmail folders (apart from the following) = 4 drives in RAID 10 invirus = 4 drives in RAID 10 domains/holding = 4 drives in RAID 10 Quarrantine is the default format. Levels have been set that ensure the MDB file is staying around 800MB. All users are registry based. There is plenty of free IO and CPU time to go around, except perhaps on the mailbox drive when backups are running, but even when that is stopped smtpds just doesn't seem to use the available resources. Our mail stats from the last two days follow. NOTE: We had a problem with delayed mail yesterday and had to respool 19k messages so the stats may be a bit off. ---- SMTPDS log entry made at 10/31/2003 00:30:00 ---- ModusMail Statistics for Thursday, October 30, 2003 POP3S-NB_CONNECTION,POP3S-NB_LOGON_FAILURES,POP3S-NB_SERVICE_START 1692952,468305,0 IMAP4S-NB_CONNECTION,IMAP4S-NB_LOGON_FAILURES,IMAP4S-NB_SERVICE_START 7273,237,2 SMTPRS-NB_CONNECTION,SMTPRS-NB_RECEIVED_MSG,SMTPRS-NB_SERVICE_START 396208,248195,2 SMTPDS-NB_MSG_SENT,SMTPDS-NB_LOCAL_DELIVERY,SMTPDS-NB_SERVICE_START 37921,204447,7 MAILMS-NB_CONNECTION,MAILMS-NB_LOGON_FAILURES,MAILMS-NB_SERVICE_START 0,0,1 MODUSCAN-NB_MSG_SCANNED,MODUSCAN-NB_ATTACHMENT,MODUSCAN-NB_VIRUS,MODUSCAN-NB_SIEVE,NB_SERVICE_START 229311,8397,306,9650,0 ---- SMTPDS log entry made at 10/30/2003 01:29:45 ---- ModusMail Statistics for Wednesday, October 29, 2003 POP3S-NB_CONNECTION,POP3S-NB_LOGON_FAILURES,POP3S-NB_SERVICE_START 1692952,468305,0 IMAP4S-NB_CONNECTION,IMAP4S-NB_LOGON_FAILURES,IMAP4S-NB_SERVICE_START 8260,212,0 SMTPRS-NB_CONNECTION,SMTPRS-NB_RECEIVED_MSG,SMTPRS-NB_SERVICE_START 425174,228234,0 SMTPDS-NB_MSG_SENT,SMTPDS-NB_LOCAL_DELIVERY,SMTPDS-NB_SERVICE_START 40246,194232,0 MAILMS-NB_CONNECTION,MAILMS-NB_LOGON_FAILURES,MAILMS-NB_SERVICE_START 0,0,0 MODUSCAN-NB_MSG_SCANNED,MODUSCAN-NB_ATTACHMENT,MODUSCAN-NB_VIRUS,MODUSCAN-NB_SIEVE,NB_SERVICE_START 212902,8915,575,9984,0 Jon Benson Mail/DNS/Linux Administrator OzHosting.com ** To unsubscribe, send an Email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "UNSUBSCRIBE" in the body or subject line.
