Jon,
How much email is hitting the Modus machine via smtp requests and what
hardware are you using for this? We have three linux boxes running in
front of our Modus server but they will be relegated to routine RBL
checks once Modus3 becomes public. Are you sure that you're db is not
over max if you are using the native accesss database?
We went to the three linux boxes because of the amount of email we were
getting. Previously they were running spamassassin and rbl's but with
the new Modus we don't need SA anymore as it catches more spam than SA.
There are other utilities that can be used to add virus filtering to
*nix but it really sounds to me like you have other, more basic problems
with your Modus hardware/setup.

Subject: [Modus] OT - Alternative to Webshield?
* This is the modus mailing list *
Hi all,
We recently purchased a Webshield e500 to place in front of our mail
servers to cut back on the volume of mail hitting them by eliminating
Viruses/Spam before they reach the mail server.
However it turns out that it doesn't support a way to programatically
update the list of domains it will relay for and is therefore useless to
us. We'll be returning it shortly so it's time for me to try finding an
alternative product that may meet our needs.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a 'transparent' device that does
Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam to drop in front of a ModusMail server?
Modus got in a bad state again today that saw delayed emails. I had to
rename the incoming spool and then requeue the mail. Even then it had
trouble keeping up with more then 2 messages a second being reinjected.
:(
Thanks,
Jon Benson
