Do all your drives have plenty of free space (I'm thinking your temp directory might be on a drive with low disk space)? Have you tried sending a 6Mb or larger attachment to a single mailbox on your server since? IT would be could to find the particular cause of this. There was a 6MB message (att .doc file) that was in the incoming directory (and had been there about two hours). Removing this file resolved the CPU/ memory issue. I still do not know why it was a problem. I looked in the logs and the message went through all the hoops and hurdles just fine - but then it was never placed in the clients mailboxes ( it was being sent to two or three of my users from an AOL user).
