Hi Suneel,
I resolved the problem shortly after posting and trying  server restarts
and then a cold boot.. There was a 6MB message (att .doc file) that was
in
the incoming directory (and had been there about two hours). Removing
this
file resolved the CPU/ memory issue. I still do not know why it was a
problem. I looked in the logs and the message went through all the hoops
and hurdles just fine - but then it was never placed in the clients
mailboxes ( it was being sent to two or three of my users from an AOL
user). I appreciate you checking though.
