The only problem you will get if the SQL box goes down is the message destined for the quarantine will pile up in the spool/spam and spoo/virus folders. That isn't a bad thing until it starts to run up to about 50,000 messages. By then you will need a big stick to beat the &[EMAIL PROTECTED] out of the server to get the disk system to respond as you will have begun to overload the directory structure. We successfully punished our server with 210,000 messages in the spool/spam folder once (the sql server was down for maintenance) and managing the disk during that time was dreadful. M2 seemed to continue working, though somewhat slower. Once the SQL machine came back on line and I restarted the modusadm service it took 10 hours to move the data into the SQL database.

Which brings up a good point, Does M3 occasionally check to see if the SQL datasource is back on line and start using it, or do we still have to restart modusadm to make it look again?

Subject: [Modus] Implemented sql quarantine (Is their a problem?)

With the old mdb database I was having problems after about a month with its size.  I also note that the quarantine portion of the program would take forever to load as the mdb got bigger.  Not only for the server to load but also for the customer.  Modus just got slower and slower as the mdb database grew.  I have not noticed this with sql running on another machine dedicated just to sql.  Modus is much faster and seems more stable. The web mail loads faster for the customer also.

I also think it would not be a big big deal if the sql machine were to crash.  After all it's only spam.  But if the Modus Machine Crashes All "Billy Hell" will break loose.

If it keeps up this rate just guessing within 24 hours it is going to catch over 60,000 spams

I am a small Isp also.  Approx 850 mailboxes.  We have almost 10000 per day go into the quarantine.  Sql is running on a dedicated machine, dual 667, 1gig ram.  It is running so well I may move my platypus database there also.  I set Sql to use only 400 megs of the 1 gig of ram.  So far it has only reached approx 250 megs.  Running at 1 to 2% of capacity most of the time.

It should run for years.

I implemented the sql quarantine last night.

Since 1am till 8:30 am  (71/2 hours) It has caught over 16,000 spam

Most off these seem to be by the filter Miscellenous\Normal

At any rate this seems awful high, is something wrong?

Is sql or something going to crash, chucking in so many to the database?

I never run this part before, and being a small isp, this was alarming!
