David,
we have modusgate running on a dual Xeon 2.66 with Ultra320 SCSI drives.
We process about 350,000 to 480,000 messages each day and retain about 1,800,000 messages in our quarantine.
Modusgate is linked via private Gbit ethernet to a remote dedicated SQL server running on similar hardware.
The SQL server never looks like its doing anything much. It just idles along.
Out of 15,000 customers, we currently only generate less than 100 reports.
We have set the reporting time to start at 3:00 am.
On the weekends, when the mail load is at the low end (350,000 msg/day) the reports go out by about 5am
On weekdays, the reports don't start going out until about 11am.
Given that we use our SQL server to also test Beta versions of Modusgate, I temporarily configured it to generate the reports. Seeing the load on this server is practically nil, the reports are going out at the appropriate time.
I think the problem lies in the way Modus prioritizes resources, in that if mail is constantly flowing above a particular rate, the reports don't get generated.
I would really love to be able to offer quarantine reporting to more customers, but can't see how until this issue is resolved.

We have been toying around with the idea of a dedicated SQL server with a
copy of modusgate on it only to process quarantine reports. You think this
will be any better? We cannot operate this product without the reports.

Anyone have quarantine databases in the several GBs? If so, having any problems with reports and quarantine views?
