Configuration: ModusMail 3 with IMAP folders for Webmail and POP3 for e-mail clients.
Can anyone tell me what the “B00xxxxxxxx.stc” files are that exist in a user’s inbox? Explanation of what prompted this question below:
I had a customer that was unable to retrieve her e-mail using Outlook (unknown exact version). She would get the window showing “receiving message 1 of 9…” and it would never increment up (stayed on message 1). She tried logging into the WebMail server and it took a very long time to retrieve the messages, but when it did list the messages, there weren’t any displayed. We experienced the same behavior via webmail into her account.
I went into her inbox directory on the server and there were several “B00xxxxxxxx.stc” files and 14 “B00xxxxxxxx.MSG” files. I moved all of the files (excluding the folder.imp and the keyword.imp) and then had the customer service representative attempt to retrieve mail through webmail (to test whether it was possibly an issue with her Outlook). We were able to see the empty mailbox, and I moved all but one of the 14 MSG files back and we could see those listed in webmail as well. I then moved all of the STC files over and it made no difference in the message count via webmail. I then had the customer attempt to retrieve mail through OE (again to test whether it was possibly an issue with her Outlook). She was able to check mail without any errors and then I moved the largest message back (a 686KB MSG file) and she was able to begin retrieval of that message (this is where we left her to finish waiting for that large message via a dialup connection).
I’m going to chalk this up to an issue with her Outlook, but I was curious as to what the STC files were.
