Hi Andy Its always read that pressure and is now at 40K miles, serviced annually at BHM and never varied in last 20K miles - would suspect my sensors/gauge is reading low. It's consistent which is reassuring. if it dropped when it got hot I would have some concern, but it doesn't and maintains 1.5 bar at tick-over. May change the sensor at some stage. Richard M800RGN+8

Is yours a Serpentine belt Rover engine? If it is then oil pressure of 2.2 Bar seems a little on the low side. I agree that is more about flow than pressure (which is possibly why cooling it is giving you the results) , but the later serpentine engines deliver about 2 Bar at idle and 3.5 to 4.0 Bar running at over 2,000 rpm. The gauge no longer measure actual pressure , but an electrical reading from a pressure sensor, so it is sensitive to all the electrical contacts being clean. You might want to look at that.
