Tim,
I infer from this that you won't be at tonight's Noggin in Aberlour.

Cheers,
Owen.

  Richard,

Thanks for the details. While clearly not a quick replacement it may be
worth doing. I'm currently struggling (was that a pun?) with a failing
battery that is less than two years old. It is compounded by the continuing
non-resolution of my no idle after hot restart issue, but even so I have to use
a battery conditioner overnight if I miss even one day's driving. I
realize I also need to check that I don't have a new current drain.

Colin, did fitting yours involve longer leads? Mine is mounted on the
offside, so different from Richard's.

  Tim

  Tim, now reading Richard's reply.

Obviously if you have an Odyssey you can reuse the terminal posts.

I got my battery on ebay. Best price and delivery through the mail!

  Hi Tim

The answer is yes and no if your battery is mounted on the nearside as mine
is as it needs some mods.

Ideally the battery needs to be mounted with the terminals fitting backwards
as this means the battery just fits on the shelf as it is then close to the
standard battery format but + - terminals are reversed if you have them on
the upper of the battery face (which I preferred as I did not want the
terminals sitting down in all the road spray). This requires a longer positve
lead from the switch which I sourced from ECS (Electrical Car Services) online
- they make up custom leads and the earth lead also needs the top 'p' clip
removed to give some extra length I also used an alloy race battery bracket
from Merlin Motorsport (a sleeve that fits over the battery) plus I added some
additional padding underneath the battery to make it sit sqare as there is a
lip on the back of the shelf. This meant I could reuse the original threaded
holding down rods with a square tube drilled to fit and go over the top of the
alloy bracket to hold everything in place. I did grind 2 half moons from the
mount as I thought clearance was a bit close to the terminals and insulated
with tape as well to make sure. There are some really elegant mounting kits for
these batteries, but everyone I looked at seemed to be in the US.

I was a bit disapointed when the battery arrived as it was recommended by
this group and I hadn't checked which way around the terminals were - but now
it is done I am happy. Oh don't forget you also need some round terminal studs
as the battery comes as standard with threaded bosses. The + terminal is a
bigger diameter than the negative and most batteries when ordering a new
positive lead.

If you are serious about doing this I can dig out some more details and take
a picture.

It certainly costs more - time will tell if it was worth the effort and extra
cash.

Quick question, does the Odyssey battery fit in the over-the-axle location as
on my 2000 Plus 8 ?

  Tim
