Hi Richard Step one is to look if you have advanced EVAPS, is there a small valve on the bulkhead with what looks like 2 fuel pipes going to it and an electrical connection.
If so you have a well known condition and its an easy fix. Advanced EVAP draws fuel tank fumes from the carbon canister mounted near the fuel tank and breathes them through the engine where they are burnt off. Trouble is caused when you overfill the tank and fuel instead of fuel vapour is spilt into the carbon canister so when the purge valve opens the car draws fuel instead of vapour into the intake. Its a little similar to pulling out the choke. The system is ECU controlled and cycles once the engine is warm, the fix is to ovoid overfilling. It will clear itself but could leave you in a dangerous position plus it will eventually damage the Cats. Hope that's all it is.
