That's reall a completely different can of worms.  If we go for a
library, we'll face a whole different kind of issues.  Not to speak
of having to rethink all those global variables that we currently
have.

I'd be tempted to make such a library, if I had time.  That would be
a major rework of some of the code.  I think that's the real reason
why noone is doing it (yet).
