I haven't played with 4.9 myself yet (been busy hacking on MonoTouch 4.1 and MonoDevelop 2.8), but I would probably still say MonoDevelop 2.6.0 if you need *supported*. If you want to play with MonoDevelop 2.8, by all means install that and try out it's Xcode4 support ;-) We're pushing hard to get MonoDevelop 2.8 to be ready for prime-time because we realize Xcode4 support is a top priority for many people, especially since so many people have made the switch to Lion which has Xcode4.1.
