I think inclusion of USB 3.0 is great. Means you'll be able to run your VMs off an external drive nicely. I'm not sure I need 16GB to run all my virtuals though as I'm not planning on running all that many at one given time.
Agree with you about the "bonus" of the retina display - just not sure if that might hinder more than help due to scaleability issues. As I know if I got one I'd want to run it at full res to use it's potential and then it would be PITA having to keep changing the screen display settings when switching to a virtual or remote desktop. Portability is important to me, so I'm still stuck on getting a 8GB MBA at the moment.
