I don't ship very often anymore but when I do, I usually use
FedEx. And while they don't scan the package at my door,
it's possible they do once they get back to the truck. Or they
may not scan them until they reach the office. But they
always leave a copy of the airbill, with the drivers info added
to it. That counts as "documentation" in my book.
And I can't tell you the horror stories I've had shipping with
either USPS or UPS. Especially UPS international, who will
go out of their way to screw you and deliberately delay your
packages if you don't use them as your customs broker.
