Now... now... fellas, let's play nice. Let's have no casting of aspersions.
No one shills, that's paranoia on the part of losing bidders. No one ever
overpays for anything -- you can always just not bid, right? It's been proven by
government laboratories that the fact is that everyone has better
packaging, pictures and descriptions than everyone else. Heritage buffs are
out in force lauding the catalog and asking leading questions about the
upcoming event... Bruce backers will be doing the same shortly as his next
event approaches... And the idea that someone (men in yellow coats, perhaps?)
might shill bid on multiple items using a portfolio of identities
developed over the years without the knowledge of any given Auctioneer or
Auction House, why that's just science fiction. They would know if someone
tried that. Just how I don't know personally, but I'm sure they must have some
way and so can reassure us with absolute certainly that it can't happen here.
Private auctions are for our own protection -- privacy is a good thing (it says
so in the U.S. constitution). The suggestion that private
auctions might somehow be used to hide something is just sour grapes on the
part of those who can't afford to pop for another couple hundred bucks on that
last bid. Copying someone's format is the sincerest form of flattery, after
all. As for the best strategy to employ when bidding
on a crazy format of "now you see it on eBay... whoops, now you
don't... but hey, look, it's actually closing over here somewhere
tomorrow..." ? Oh come now, you really want to know my thoughts
on bidding on an setup like that? Look, it just so happens that everyone
almost always overpays at these Major Events for almost everything because...
well... because that's just the way it is. Big-time auctioneers and auction
houses are the long-suffering, beneficent GODS of the MOVIE POSTER UNIVERSE and
the rest of us should just shut up and open our wallets and kiss our bank
accounts goodbye. Bidders are such ingrates and cry babies.
-- JR... in full Poster Curmudgeon mode and not feeling apologetic about it
at all, folks...
